Exceptional 11ct tanzanite necklace

This is an exceptional new tanzanite and diamond necklace of exquisite quality. The tanzanite gemstone is a glorious blue, flashing with purple and gold. It is a wonderful colour—and thanks to this stone’s unusual aura, its near-reverence by the New York jeweller Tiffany, and the likelihood that it will be mined out in the not too distant future, it is one of the world’s most coveted gemstones. Our Hatton Garden jeweller is always on the lookout for beautiful and rare examples—and this large and dramatic 11.66 carat tanzanite, mined in Tanzania, in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, hit the mark. It is not only unusual, it is fabulous, and graded the very top AAAA quality. This is a lively stone which 'speaks' to its viewer.

South African safari from your own private villa: save £3,500
Picture the scene: you are on safari in a Big 5 Game Reserve in South Africa with your favourite friends. An experienced private ranger is at hand to take you on game drives and reveal the magic of the African wildlife, just for you. A retinue of private chef, housekeeper and staff are there to take care of your every need. Your private home is from a bygone age, a five-bedroom Edwardian villa built at a time when high wool prices and the ostrich feather boom led to palatial homesteads in stunning locations. It has large, elegant rooms with high ceilings and a wide, shaded wrap-around veranda. Below you, amid the views of your gardens and the wide-open valley stretching beyond, is a watering hole where free-roaming wild animals and birds come to drink, providing your own private game viewing, night and day, without moving from your villa.

By day there are game drives, mountainous breakfasts and picnics, delicious dinners in the wood-panelled dining room, relaxed barbecues on the veranda, the cocktail hour for traditional gin and tonic amid stories and recollections of the day's adventures and plans with your ranger—and chef—for the day to come. It is all as relaxed, or as active, as you would wish.

This, then, is your home from home on a renowned 25,000-acre game reserve in South Africa's Eastern Cape. It is Lalibela, and it has what is believed to be the densest population of free-roaming predators in the country. Big game sightings—lion, rhino, elephant, buffalo and leopard—occur regularly and other game including zebra, giraffe, hippo, cheetah and hyena are abundant. This is a reserve with exceptional wildlife habitats and game viewing, and so private it has no public roads.

A good African wildlife safari is magical, whether you are in a tented village or a game lodge—but the extra magic of this Lalibela Hilltop Villa is your total privacy and luxury. Here, you can truly experience how it was to live in the Edwardian manner, on a safari sharing the experience with your family and friends—Lalibela has other camps, but none are in your purview here on the hillside. It means, too, that different generations can enjoy the safari, since the game passes by your wide, shady veranda as you rock there in a chair, or in sight of your private swimming pool, or your firepit barbecue.

Your Hillside Villa is unique—there is one only, and it opens next month having been beautifully restored. It has five double or twin bedrooms for up to 10 guests—and our Club rate is so good that if you wish you can take the villa for yourself or with another couple or two and simply enjoy the extra space! Three bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms with bath, shower and his-and-her basins—with wide stack doors opening out on to the veranda, giving views of the gardens and valley beyond. Two bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms with shower and double basins. All are air-conditioned.

The cost? The Hillside Villa is usually from £7,300 to £8,000 for three nights, but for you as a Club Member it starts at R67,200 (currently £3,895) for the whole villa for the full three-night stay including game drives (evening and morning), all meals and drinks at the villa and on the game drives, as well as airport transfers. This works out at from £389.50 per person for three nights, or about £130 each per night—so you are saving about £3,500. This rate is from May 1 to September 30, subject to availability. In the high season the rate increases—but you still save at least 20% on the rates others pay.

Lalibela has individual safari lodges too—also newly opening next month—so you can stay instead at Lentaba Lodge, a beautiful child-free zone of secluded thatched lodges for two—and for our three-night arrangement, including game drives, meals and drinks, the rate is 9,775 rand per person sharing (currently just £567 each instead of the usual £920). Again, this is from May 1 to September 30, but you always receive that exclusive 20% discount, whatever the time of year you choose.

As to location, Lalibela is just an hour's drive from Port Elizabeth, gateway to the Garden Route. Flights from the UK are via Johannesburg or Cape Town. So it is easy to combine this wildlife safari with a tour of the Garden Route, a visit to Cape Town and the winelands, championship golf, gourmet dining, the stunning Drakensberg Mountains, the Zulu battlefield sites, and a beach holiday on the ‘Sunshine Coast’ or in Mozambique—or indeed another safari in a different location, such as Kruger and Sabi Sands. For all these experiences and more we have hand-picked partners, and Club rates throughout. To check availability and all other options, please call Member Services on 020 7399 2960 or click here to email your request.

Designer bag from the London shows

Handbags are overwhelmingly ladylike for autumn. With New York, London, Milan and Paris all wrapped up, we're still remembering the ingenious novelty of Chanel—and Spencer & Rutherford, a brand currently storming the autumn/winter 2017 runways with quintessential, totally unique bags.

Spencer & Rutherford is in fact an inspirational Australian brand with an original design and quality that is catapulting them to the forefront of the European catwalks in this, their first season. We spied this covetable leather Carlota Mini Heart Throb bag in the True Romance collection at the recent London show. Ladylike yet attention-grabbing, it has an air of both Bottega Veneta and Chanel, and yet it is totally original. We love it!.

The Saint James Club in Paris extends to our Members the benefits of private membership at its historically important château in the heart of Paris. This superb château behind an almost regal gated entrance, surrounding its guests in French antiquities and silk furnishings, leaves you in no doubt that you are in one of the world’s most culturally stimulating cities. Far better, we think, to be ensconced in one of France’s historic monuments as a VIP guest with special privileges, than to stay in a ‘normal’ hotel. And this is particularly so now, when to start the autumn season we have a new Blue Ribbon rate for the first Members to book a luxurious Junior Suite—just £369 per night including tax, instead of the usual £750 or more. . . please call Member Services on 020 7399 2960

And as Rome is at its best for sightseeing in late-September and October, when the weather is perfect: sunny but cooling down from summer’s high heat, this might just be a good time to book—particularly with our new Blue Ribbon rates at this exceptional designer hotel.

As a CountryClubuk Member you have an exclusive deal at Hotel Indigo, starting with a Blue Ribbon rate of £259 for two for two nights in a Superior Double room, including Italian breakfasts, tax and service. Elegant new coats, cashmere and fox

Having seen hundreds of coats come down the catwalks, we have kept tabs on what we want this year—and catching our eye this autumn/winter 2017 are these new tailored full-length cashmere coats with the luxurious addition of extra detachable collars in the softest Scandinavian fox fur. Such a discreet and elegant interpretation of luxury—we are thrilled with them both!

Stunning examples of what can be achieved through the combination of top quality materials and expert design, they are sleek and feminine cashmere coats, neither too long nor too short, not oversized nor chubby—just beautifully tailored, finished with expert hand tailoring stitching on their collars and belts—just so stylish and easy to wear. Cashmere is rightly acclaimed for its matchless warmth and natural softness, and those qualities are fully evident in these sumptuous coats. With their detachable fox fur collars and shapely elegance they look wonderful worn either way and are an entirely different proposition from others. They are perfect to glide around London, Paris, Milan and New York!
