You are warmly invited to the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden for the Royal Ballet’s superb Peter Wright production of 'Giselle', the greatest of Romantic ballets, ultimate glory of the classic repertoire, starring the Royal Ballet's dazzling, meteoric star ballerina Akane Takada, performing with another rising star, Benjamin Ella. Exclusively, our Club Members can watch this thrilling and beautiful sell-out performance from the best seats in the Orchestra Stalls for just £73 instead of the usual £115—or join us prior to the performance in the gilded splendour of the Ritz Hotel for a delicious Three-Course Pre-Theatre Champagne Dinner in the Michelin Star Restaurant, including your taxi, service and VAT, all for £149 instead of the full £218.

We are thrilled to have secured tickets for this, the sparkling new-season production, on Monday, February 5. It will be memorable—the full spectacle of the pure lunar beauty of Takada with her co-star Ella, leading the entire Royal Ballet Company with the Orchestra of The Royal Opera, performing in the historic, red-and-gold Royal Opera House auditorium. This promises to be a totally enchanting evening and a wonderful start to the artistic year.

The fluidly expressive Japanese ballerina Akane Takada is winning rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. 'Sheer delight' writes the Standard reviewer, 'almost flying with joy in her jetés'. He continues, 'Takada’s fluency as an elusive spirit with a human heart bodes well for her future Giselle.' Leading critic Judith Mackrell applauds Takada's ability to 'scintillate with light and air'. A small, light dancer, Takada has a porcelain elegance—her lines are smooth, her phrasing delicate and she has a depth and grace which transcend description.

Takada is, after all, the young star of the Bolshoi Ballet school who shot to stardom as principal ballerina at the Royal Ballet last year, attaining the Company's highest rank aged only 26, and who first made her name in an acclaimed performance at Covent Garden, standing in for an injured Natalia Osipova. Now 27, Takada is glorious, and destined for even greater international fame and stardom, while partner Ella is a striking young dancer who won the joint top Royal Ballet school honours with the now acclaimed Vadim Muntagirov, and who is already hailed as 'soaring' by the critics. Takada and Ella form a glorious couple, touchingly exquisite.

The ballet 'Giselle' is one of the most beautiful of all; it transformed the dance world when it was first performed in Paris in 1841 and it remains at the centre of the classical repertory. As to Peter Wright's production for the Royal Ballet, it is perhaps the finest 'Giselle' of all time, using Marius Petipa’s classic version (after the original choreography by Jules Perrot and Jean Coralli), first staged in St Petersburg in 1884. Writes Mackrell, 'Giselle is now the Royal Ballet's true showcase. Dominated by two great principal roles—tragic Giselle and her duplicitous lover Albrecht—the ballet's detailed story-telling and dramatically integrated choreography play superbly to the Royal's currently unparalleled strengths.’

The intricacy and drama of Wright and Petipa’s work and the beauty of French composer Adolphe-Charles Adam’s music, danced by two of the Royal Ballet freshest stars and played by the full Royal Opera House Orchestra within the stunningly beautiful auditorium of the Royal Opera House, will all add up to a magical experience.
