Original price was: £180.00.Current price is: £139.00.

Coto de Imaz Gran Reserva 2019 is the highest-scoring Rioja at the recent International Wine Challenge: 97 points, a gold, and three trophies, for Rioja Gran Reserva, for Rioja, and for Spanish red. The judges wrote of classic raspberry ripple, cedar and spice, cassis, and a wine intense, long and balanced.
It is Tempranillo from Finca El Villar, above Elvillar in Álava, aged 24 months in oak and then three years in bottle, which is what a gran reserva is for. The colour is still ruby. The oak has settled. In 2025 a blind panel of the Rioja council, tasting more than a hundred wines, chose it to mark the centenary of the denomination.
The International Wine and Spirit Competition scored it 95. James Suckling has it at 92, Decanter at 91, the Guía Peñín at 93. A bottle for lamb or game, at cellar temperature.
