Seven birds from the shoots: the British Game Season Box

The pheasant season opened on 1st October, and with it the full range of Britain’s traditional game birds is now coming in from the shoots.

Our first new-season Game Boxes have arrived at the Club, bringing together four particularly enjoyable varieties: wild red grouse from the moors, red-legged partridge, mallard and pheasant.

From the moors and shoots to the finest kitchens

British game has long enjoyed an enviable reputation among discerning cooks. Its distinctive flavours, the variety of birds and the traditions of the sporting season have made it a favourite of leading restaurants in Britain and abroad, including some of the celebrated kitchens of Paris.

Our birds come through a highly respected specialist game supplier whose customers include Michelin-starred chefs.

We have already received, cooked and tasted all four varieties in this season’s selection and are delighted with their quality.

Each box contains seven fresh British game birds:

2 wild red grouse, New York dressed
2 red-legged partridges, New York dressed
2 mallard, oven-ready
1 pheasant, oven-ready

The grouse and partridges are supplied New York dressed, retaining their heads, feet and feathers. The mallard and pheasant are supplied oven-ready.

It is a wonderfully varied introduction to the game season, equally suited to those who already enjoy cooking game and those who would like to discover the different flavours of Britain’s traditional birds.
