The Savoy Hotel The Strand, London WC2 THE full ambience of the Savoy Hotel surrounds you as you enjoy the culinary delights of Kaspar’s Seafood Bar & Grill. This stylish ‘Art Deco’ restaurant, named after the former River Restaurant ‘cat’—is itself enjoying warm praise for the quality of its cuisine and service, as well as the general ambience. And as a Member of CountryClubuk a complimentary glass of Champagne will be served to you and your guests whenever you lunch or dine on any menu. The menus change naturally with the seasons—on, for example, the set lunch or pre- or post- theatre menu you might be treated to such delicious dishes as red mullet with fennel and shallot marmalade and, for mains, pan-fried sole with petits pois a la Français, pancetta and bacon, or slow-braised beef short ribs, followed by a pudding of pavé of chocolate with caramelised ba- nanas and crunchy coconut or spiced pineapple carpaccio with gâteau, lychee sorbet, Chantilly and macaron, all for a mere £32 for two courses or £36 for three courses—with free Champagne. Opt for three courses from the bespoke à la carte menu and your choice may well include suc- culent Hereford fillet steak, or pan-roasted scallops, Cornish crab, yellowfin tuna, Jersey rock oysters, and more. You can of course go ‘off-piste’ à la carte and savour Isle of Sky lobster, foie gras crème brulée, sushi and caviar. The excellent wine list includes some choice wine by the glass. We think you will agree that this all sounds rather good: a glass of Champagne on the house (usually costing £20 a glass), a meal which could cost you more in a local chain restaurant—and five-star service, while dining in one of the world’s great hotels. You can book tables for any num- ber—and Kaspar’s has a semi-private room just off the restaurant—a superb, complimentary venue for a private party of up to 14 guests, yet still with the full restaurant ambience. ¶ See also London Hotels feature and countryclubuk.com.
