This is the jewel in the crown of English polo, one of the world’s top five polo tournaments and a quintessen- tially English sporting day—and it is only part of the picture for our Members, who are invited guests at Guards throughout the season. The Cartier Queen’s Cup at- tracts the world’s finest polo play- ers and encapsulates the best of the British Season. This 22-goal tournament runs for six weeks, climaxing with the Semi-Finals and the Finals, when HM The Queen historically presents her trophy to the winning team. The Cartier Queen’s Cup is polo at its best. It is a thrilling sporting occasion—the Semi-Fi- nals offering a long day of per- haps the greatest sporting watched HRH Prince Charles win the trophy with Les Diables Bleus. HRH Prince Philip had to settle for the runners-up spot twice, in 1964 and ’66. Founded in 1955, Guards was originally named the Household Brigade Polo Club, with Prince Philip as President. The Queen, the Prince of Wales and Princes William and Harry regularly attend.
